Victoria Children
Foundation works in four program areas:
1) Abandonment prevention. VCF implements projects
aimed at abandonment and orphanhood prevention, reduction of the
number of children who lose opportunity to grow in their biological
families.
2) Family placement services. VCF supports all forms
of family placement for orphaned and abandoned children and
assesses effectiveness of each form for the wellbeing of a child.
VCF works in cooperation with public agencies and local communities
to establish a comprehensive system of family
placement services; assists in reorganising the work of
residential homes and orphanages; provides resources for selection,
training and support of foster families.
- "Family placement services for orphan
children" program. The main objective of the Foundation is to
ensure an opportunity for each and every child to be raised in a
loving family. The program is in close co-operation with
institutions all over the country that work in the sphere of family
placement and social orphanage prevention. The Foundation is
constantly developing a wide scope of activities within this
program, which include informing the populace about family
placement services for orphan children; selection, training, and
ongoing support for those families that adopt orphans; education
and training of professionals in the sphere of child protection as
well as creation of special handbooks on the subject.
- "“Villages for Children” The project is co-operating with
“SOS-Villages for Children Committee of Russian Federation” in
building a special “SOS Village for Children” in Vologda,
Russia. The program participants are also busy with building an
independent “Village for Children” in Krasnodarskiy Kray (Krasnodar
County), which will provide orphan kids with surroundings very
close to a real family".
3) Social and life skills development. VCF
implements projects, which allow children who have to live in
residential homes and institutions and who are in foster care, to
develop key competences, necessary to succeed in life and become
productive adults.
- "Social adaptation of orphan
children". This program helps children from orphanages to
develop their social activity and form essential social skills.
Socio-psychological training, competition, festivals are organized
for inmates of children’s houses. A special social online network
was established that allows orphan children to receive help,
support, share some interesting information and get answers on any
kind of questions they have. Inmates also participate in vocational
camps where they integrate with “family” children. The program puts
high priority on providing support for tutors and mentors working
with children and on developing volunteer activities among the
youth.
- "Strategy of Success". The primary objective of this
program is to create conditions for gifted orphan children to
develop their skills. This includes those children whose talent has
not been fully exposed yet. Programs of early diagnostics and
development of children’s talents that are based on active
participation approach, follow up by tutors and providing
psychological support to children - all help to maintain positive
attitude towards life of orphan children, to form successful,
socially active, competitive self-developing personality
- "Foothold". This program helps to
maintain children labor education and career guidance through
organizing job orientation courses, excursions to different
enterprises, labor camps. These activities are aimed at providing
children with necessary materials and outfitting them for future
working environments. This helps kids to evaluate their own
potential and strengths, choose future profession that would be of
their own interest and would go down a treat. Within this program,
the Fund also organizes training programs for specialists working
in children care organizations that would provide them with
educational and methodological materials on job-orientation
activities for orphan children.
- "House for decent life". The primary objective of this
program is to improve actual living conditions of orphan children,
provide them with healthy food, improve their security,
develop skills of domestic self-service and healthy
life-style among kids. Within this project, Victoria
Foundation offers refurbishment of orphanages in disrepair by
providing maintenance, sport and entertainment equipment,
furniture, kitchen and laundry facilities.
4) Advancing volunteerism and supportive social
environment. VCF promotes volunteerism as a common value,
conducts research and analysis in the area of child welfare,
provides training and methodical support to the specialists who
work with the children, and ensures dissemination of knowledge,
important for efficient transformation of child care system in
Russia.
